Use the GUI to adjust the Explorer configuration :
- Transmission strategy: periodic transmissions or transmissions on satellite pass predictions
- Message redundancy: messages repetition interval
- Sensor management: sensor activation or deactivation and alert thresholds configuration
Step 1. GUI Installation
- Download the GUI:
- Extract the folder
- Double-click KimGUI.exe to launch the application
Connect the Explorer
- Whith the Kinéis Device interface open, choose
Basic
mode andExplorer
device, then refresh the COM port.
ℹ️ |
If the COM port is not automatically detected, you will need to install the driver:
|
- Select
Connect
, on the interface. It iwill ask to press the Explorer device wake button. Once pushed, the main window is displayed as below:
In the Misc / Logs
panel, you can observe that the AT+ID=? and AT+FW=? commands are sent to the device automatically. The related values, device ID and firmware version, returned by the device, are displayed in the top right corner.
Step 2. Explorer AOP update with the GUI
The data necessary for the Explorer to compute the satellite pass forecast is called the Adapted Orbital Parameter (AOP).
⚠️ | We recommended to update the AOP regularly every 3 months, to ensure accurate computations. |
1. Launch the GUI and connect the Explorer.
2. Under Transmission profile
, two options are available: select Pre-pass
. This allows the device to compute the satellite pass forecast using an embedded algorithm.
3. Click the Download
button to retrieve the AOP data online. Save them into the device by clicking Set parameter
. Press the device button when asked.
4. Check successful AOP update: the date in the logs must match the previous day's date.
5. Ensure to save the settings by clicking the Upload config
button.
Step 3. Explorer configuration with the GUI
3.1 Acquisition configuration
- Correspond to the number of sensors acquisition per day (ex: 1 acquisition every 3 600 s = 24 acquisitions per day). It is displayed in the bottom right corner as the
acquisition period
in seconds. Update the field with the value of your choice.
- Acquisition repetition is displayed in the
Transmission profile
panel, underRedundancy
config: update the field with the value of your choice.
With prepass activated, the device can handle up to 1 acquisition every 20 minutes and repeat a message 4 times.
- If messages frequency and repetition are higher, satellite availability may not be sufficient to transmit all the data, resulting in lost messages.
- More messages = less autonomy
3.2 Satellite pass forecast
The satellite pass forecast can be disabled, thus allowing the GNSS deactivation if needed. Select Periodic
option in the Transmission profile
pannel to disable the forecast: the device will send a message every 60 seconds.
3.3 Sensors configuration
All sensors can be enabled or disabled. In the Sensors config
pannel, uncheck a sensor to disable it, check a sensor to enable it.
3.4 Alerting
4 alerts are configurable:
- Shock detection with the accelerometer
- Push button: the action to push the button will trigger a sensor acquistion together with an alert message
- Light detection
- Dry contact activation
Check the alert to activate it, and uncheck the alert to deactivate it.
Note that sensors are not calibrated precisely and we advise you to leave the thresholds default values.
When the light detection alert is activated, the LED no longer lights up to avoir raising an alert (the boot-up process and the shutdown process remain identical, but the LED doesn't light up when pushing the button. The rest of the LED-based indications are off).
3.5 Save the settings
After configuring the Explorer, ensure to save the settings by clicking the Upload config
button.
